Ice Cold!!

The Balea Lac Hotel of Ice is located in the Fagaras mountains in Romania.  Entirely made of ice, the hotel offers accommodation where the temperature is between -2º and +2º C (approximately 28º and 35º F).  Ten double rooms with king size beds book for £35 ($45.73) per person.

The hotel offers amenities like most other hotels such as a restaurant and bar.  My only question is who would pay to eat, drink, and sleep in the cold?

Pomegranate Moscato Punch

If you're searching for the perfect drink recipe for your New Year's festivities this weekend, look no further.  This punch hits all the right notes.

You Will Need:
16 oz pomegranate juice
1 can (46 oz) pineapple juice
1 (750 ml) bottle Moscato
3-1/2 cups cranberry cocktail juice
1/2 to 1 cup triple sec


Make it bubbly: Top off the glasses with a splash of sparkling moscato champagne instead of adding it directly into the punch.

Make it virgin: Use sparkling white grape juice and orange juice to replace moscato and triple sec.

Kick it up a notch: If you're not opposed to letting your wine sit overnight, combine the ingredients the night before and let the punch sit in the refrigerator overnight.

Garnish with orange and lime slices and pomegranate seeds (optional).

Makes 12 servings.

Art for the Soul

Tabitha Bianca Brown of Chicago, IL is an illustrator and the owner of the Etsy shop The Pairabirds.  I recently stubbled upon her shop and immediately fell in love.  Being a natural girl myself, I was delighted to find her multicultural art collection that included several pieces featuring women with natural textures.  The piece to the left is Sunny (Wood Silhouette Portait), a digital illustration of a woman with twists and curls.

I have loved Barbie dolls since I was a little girl.  I can remember getting my very first Barbie when I was 5 or 6 years old.  She had a beautiful cinnamon complexion, long black silky hair and bold pink eye shadow and lip gloss.  She was the only doll I played with for years until my younger brother ripped her head off (le sigh).  I actually cried because I loved that doll so much.  But Barbie has come a long way since my childhood. 

Earlier this year, Mattel announced a new limited-edition tokidoki Barbie featuring a pink bob, hot pink mini skirt, sky-high sparkly silver stilettos, and tattoos across her chest, arms, and back.  GO BARBIE!!

While this temporary look caused quite a stir among parents, this doll was meant to be a collectors item for adults.  This is definitely not the Barbie I remember as a little girl.  What do you think of Barbie's more modern (though limited time) look?
